Treat yourself to a spectacle that touches the heart and stirs the soul. From March 24 to April 24, 2016, Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour will be the home of Turandot. Turandot is a story of a death-marked love between Prince Calaf and Turandot. It takes you to China, where the Prince Calaf sees through Princess Turandot’ icy heart and falls in love with her. To be directed and choreographed by Chen Shi-Zheng, this masterpiece is based on a three-act opera by Giacomo Puccini.
Shi-Zheng tackles this masterpiece with his fluency in both Chinese and Western artistic approaches, drawing on the Hollywood film tradition, theatrical acrobatics and traditional Chinese opera to create works that are visually enthralling.
Allow this operatic experience to give you the best of Sydney. Indulge in an evening of singing, sunsets and sparkling wine, all in perfect harmony. Join them at the water’s edge in a pop-up opera house with purpose-built bars, restaurants and a grandstand under the stars.
Witness a coming together of some of today’s amazing artists. Featuring the Opera Australia Chorus and Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra and conductor Brian Castles-Onion, the cast will be led by Dragana Radakovic and Daria Masiero, who will portray Princess Turandot while Riccardo Massi and Arnold Rawls will portray Prince Calàf.
